Vitaly Fridzon stays in St. Petersburg

Guard Vitaly Fridzon, 36, has extended his contract with our club for 1 year. The legend of Russian basketball will play for Zenit for the third season in a row.

The final series against CSKA once again showed that skill turns into greatness over the years. A three-pointer at the right moment, a block shot when no one is waiting, the most accurate assist – this is what separates the champion from the challenger.

Thanks to his victory in the VTB United League 21/22, Fridzon became the first player in the history of the competition to win gold medals with three different clubs. In 2011, Vitaly won the League for the first time as a member of the Khimki Moscow region. From 2014 to 2018, the guard won with CSKA Moscow. Moreover, this trophy became the seventh in the legend’s collection! There are still records ahead that Vitaly Valeryevich will be able to rewrite as part of Zenit.

Stats in the VTB United League in the 2021-22 season: 3.6 ppg (46.1% 2FG, 42.1% 3FG, 33.3% FT), 1.9 rpg, 1.3 apg in 12 minutes.

Vitaly Fridzon, Zenit BC guard:

I am very happy to spend another season with the newly-crowned winner of the VTB United League. Together we have achieved the highest result in the history of the club, and I am sure that this is just the beginning. Thanks to the coaching staff and the management of the club, who continue to trust me. I will do my best to be useful to the team.

Alexander Tserkovny, Zenit BC CEO:

Vitaly is a representative of the Golden Fund of Russian Basketball. He is a super professional dedicated to basketball, who brings the team not only experience and skill, but also a winning spirit, atmosphere and luck. The season will be extremely difficult, and we need these qualities to try to repeat the success.
