Alex Poythress moved to Zenit in 2020, having previously spent only a year in European basketball. The desire to work and develop quickly allowed the him to acclimatize both in a very busy schedule of tournaments, and in Xavier Pascual’s defense-oriented style of play, and in St. Petersburg. 9.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals on average per game in the VTB United League are excellent indicators for the big man, surrounded by more stellar guards and light forwards of our team in the 20/21 season.

A great game and noticeable progress allowed the blue-white to extend the agreement with Alex for another season. In general, February 21/22 was the brightest for Alex: at the end of the month, Poytress was recognized as the MVP of the United League championship.

In two seasons in the Zenit jersey, Alex played 102 games in the VTB United League and the Euroleague and scored 825 points.
